Seattle Jobs Initiative Executive Director, Anne Keeney: Employment in a State of Two Economies
Submitted by cityclub on Mon, 03/19/2012 - 1:08pmOn Friday, April 6th, 2012, Seattle CityClub is bringing business leaders and community members together for a forum entitled "A Tale of Two Economies: Finding the New Normal." We’ll be discussing the two disparate economic realities businesses are experiencing: while some sectors are hiring and expanding, others are shedding jobs and cutting back.
In addition to discussing how businesses in the same community are experiencing such starkly different realities, we’ll be examining the state of unemployment and underemployment. How can individuals experiencing chronic unemployment and underemployment stay afloat while retraining for a new workforce?
Enter panelist Anne Keeney.

Richard Adler – Seattle, WA

In his work as a personal injury attorney, Richard worked with a number of clients suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Many of his clients and their families struggled to get the care and services they needed. Richard stepped in to fill a void, becoming president of the Brain Injury Association of Washington (BIAWA). He then went to work in the community. In addition to coordinating care and services, Richard has also been the legal guiding light behind two key Washington State bills for TBI survivors. The “Tommy Manning Act,” was named after a TBI survivor and established funding for TBI support services in Washington State - a first! He then championed the “Zackery Lystedt Law” establishing guidelines for the management of concussions for young people involved in sports. It was the first law of its kind in the United States. Richard then forged relationships with nationally known sports physicians, the National Football League, and the Centers for Disease Control, and has fostered the passage of similar legislation in a majority of the 50 states.

Submitted by cityclub on Mon, 02/06/2012 - 11:37amOn Friday, February 2nd, CityClub hosted it's annual Board/Staff Retreat and we were lucky enough to have four of the eight CityClub founders attend. Colleen Willoughby, Kate Webster, Sue Lile Hunter and Jean Rolfe were all on hand and were kind enough to sit down with Bob Royer to discuss CityClub and it's history. Bob has written an excellent post on his blog, The Cascadia Courier, that we highly recommend you read. Check it out here!
