   Work

Preparing/retraining for a career

  • Workforce Development Council serves as a research and development center for workforce issues, sharing our expertise with the community and leading partnerships. We invest and participate in strategic initiatives to strengthen our economy and ensure that all residents have the opportunity to achieve success. (http://www.seakingwdc.org/)
  • Civic Ventures, a nonprofit think tank that is leading the call to engage millions of experienced individuals in becoming a force for social change. Civic Ventures focuses on creating pathways to encore careers that provide continued income doing work that is personally fulfilling and helps address some of society’s biggest challenges. Especially for Youth

  • College Week Live is the world’s biggest virtual college fair. They make the process of college admissions easier by bringing students, parents, counselors and colleges online to interact. (http://www.collegeweeklive.com/)
  • Vocational Information Center provides links for students and guidance counselors including resources to self assessments, career planning, career development and college planning. (http://www.khake.com/index.html)
  • Seattle Expanding Your Horizons (SEYH) is a hands-on conference at Seattle University, College of Science and Engineering  that encourages girls to explore the world of math, science and technology. (http://seattleu.edu/scieng/seyh/)
  • First in the Family (produced by Next Generation Press and What Kids Can Do, Inc.) provides the information for high school students need to know before they start their college life and after they get into college.   • Northwest Education Loan Association (NELA) is a not-for-profit guaranty agency that works in partnership with schools, banks and other lending institutions to help students continue their education. (http://www.nela.net/)
  • TRIO Student Support Services at Green River Community College is a team of professional staff and student tutors who provide one-on-one academic support to First-Generation students, economically disadvantaged students, and students with disabilities.   • KnowHow2GO Campaign is launched by American Council on Education, Lumina Foundation for Education and the Ad Council. This campaign is to help low-income students and those who are the first in their families to pursue higher education are severely underrepresented on college campuses to prepare for postsecondary education. Volunteer
  • United Way of King County mobilizes our community in ways that no single agency, individual, or government can to enhance the ability of people to care for one another. (http://www.uwkc.org/ )
  • Seattle Works is the premier community organization for local 20- and 30-somethings, Seattle Works offers opportunities for people to serve as active volunteers, informed voters, savvy charitable donors and knowledgeable community leaders. Cast your vote for the 2009 CMC People's Choice Awards - click here! The Seattle Foundation’s Healthy Community Report contains recommendations for strategies to advance economic opportunity and education in King County. We’d like to know which of these strategies is most important to you. Based on the responses generated throughout the Community Matters Campaign, CityClub will make PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS to non-profit community organizations implementing those strategies citizens select.
