Community Matters Campaign: Community Dialogues

Frequently Asked Questions For Hosting a Dialogue

WHAT ARE THE DIALOGUES ABOUT?

CityClub and its partners will host up to 50 dialogues during the Community Matters Campaign exploring the ways people are engaged and the barriers that may keep them from engaging fully. Discussion will center around:

  • Transportation and access to voting and volunteering
  • Cultural richness and diversity
  • Neighborhood cohesion and public trust

For more detailed information see the attached “About dialogues” page and  visit www.seattlecityclub.org

HOW ARE THE DIALOGUES STRUCTURED?

Our goal for each dialogue is to move participants from information to deeper levels of dialogue and action. Dialogues will begin with a brief survey while participants are getting settled, approximately 10 minutes. The conversation, lasting about one hour, will be structured around the three topic areas outlined above. In the final 20 minutes, participants will be encouraged to take action on the topics they’ve discussed. They will each fill out a pledge card of individual actions they can take, which CityClub will collect and mail back to them as a reminder. They will also vote on strategies that organizations can take to address the issues they discussed. These strategies will inform the granting of awards in the Fall, outlined in more detail below.

WHAT ARE HOSTS EXPECTED TO PROVIDE?

Each dialogue will take 90 minutes. Dialogue hosts are asked to provide a location, date and time, up to 25 participants (if you have more than 25 we can send additional facilitators so just let us know), and, if desired, refreshments.

WHAT WILL CITYCLUB PROVIDE?

CityClub and its partners will provide a “talk in a box” including a trained facilitator, informational materials, and action pledge cards.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER THE DIALOGUES?

CityClub will disseminate the ideas and outcomes to community leaders and policymakers in the form of a concluding report. The strategies identified by dialogue participants will inform the granting of awards to community organizations working on these issues. Awards will be granted at a Finale celebration for the Community Matters Campaign in November.
