Community Matters Campaign: Community Dialogues

What would we discover if all of King County had the same conversation?

Where do we agree and disagree and what should we do about it?

The answers may surprise us, but to find out we need you to join the conversation.

CityClub and its partners will host up to 50 dialogues during the Community Matters Campaign exploring the ways people are engaged and the barriers that may keep them from engaging fully. Discussion will center around:

  • Volunteering and voting
  • Cultural richness
  • Public trust

Hundreds of participants from all walks of life will to come together to have new conversations with old friends and/or meet people they’ve never met before. They will identify community assets and challenges, learn about new opportunities and take action to build stronger neighborhoods.

“Social capital” refers to the ties that bind a community together—ties that make communities safer, schools better and people healthier and happier. Do you know the names of your neighbors? Would you like to volunteer but your commute time makes it impossible? What aren’t you getting from leadership that you would like to see? How could your community build better bridges to other groups of people?

What strategies should organizations and government focus on to break down barriers to involvement and strengthen the ties that bind our community? What do you think?
