February Civic Cocktail

Please note: WSU president Elson Floyd was not be able to attend due to an emergency. John Gardner, CEO of Washington State University Foundation, joined  us for our one-on-one conversation about  WSU's plans to build the state's second publicly funded medical school and Coug culture.

This month's Civic Cocktail featured Rep. Ross Hunter (D), 48th Legislative District and Sen. Steve Litzow (R), 41st Legislative District. Along with host Joni Balter, they discussed top local issues that Washington state legislators will tackle this year including budgets, transportation and a gal named Bertha.

Rep. Ross Hunter was first elected to the House in 2002 from his 48th Legislative District, which includes parts of Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland and all of the Points communities. He is chairman of the House Appropriations Committee (responsible for the state budget) and of the state Economic and Revenue Forecast Council. Senator Litzow is the chairman of the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee. Litzow’s business experience includes over 28 years of marketing, management, and technology work, including time as a marketing executive with Procter & Gamble. He is currently a partner with EMM Group, a global marketing management company.

A panel of journalists joined the discussions including Crosscut's Berit Anderson and Essex Porter from KIRO-7 Eyewitness News.
