CityClub thrives because diverse community members get involved. Volunteers work side-by-side with CityClub staff to develop topical programs from idea generation to speaker selection.
Participation in CityClub task forces and committees offers in-depth immersion in vital regional issues, first hand access to regional experts and leaders, interactions with other engaged CityClub members, and leadership development experience.
CityClub Committees operate in various ways. Some work steadily throughout the year. Others require concerted efforts for more limited time periods. Most offer two levels of participation, with a core steering group that meets regularly for continuity and planning and resource assistants who are willing to help on specific events or projects' as they arise.
Task Forces
Committees
Forum
The opportunity to participate in forum committee is one of the big perks to being a CityClub member. This key committee oversees the planning of CityClub’s 35-40 programs annually on issues including elections, business and economics, education, social justice, environment, homelessness, science and technology, healthcare, arts and culture, and much more. Forum committee ensures that each event meets the CityClub standards of excellence and reviews each forum for lessons for the future. Committee members help develop the questions asked at the forums, brainstorm panelists, moderators, and possible topics for future discussions. Each event also has a chair that works with staff to secure speakers, draft communications and prepare our moderator. Forum committee meets once or twice monthly over lunch. The chair is a member of CityClub’s Board of Governors.
Membership
Committee members work collaboratively to serve current members' needs, expand their opportunities for involvement and grow CityClub's membership. The committee plans and orchestrates quarterly Members Only events. Past events include visits to the Boeing Dreamliner mock-up, Olympic Sculpture Park, and Theo Chocolate factory! Participants serve as CityClub ambassadors in helping the organization embody the warmth, personal touch and hospitality that are core values. They also have fun. Membership Committee meets once monthly and the chair(s) is a member of CityClub's Board of Governors.
Hospitality
This is not a formal committee but rather a "corps" of members who enjoy meeting people and are willing to greet audience members to ensure that all our members and guests feel welcome at CityClub events. It is a great way for members to volunteer with minimal commitment to attend meetings. If you have an outgoing personality, empathy for what it takes to walk in a room not knowing anyone, and you want to network, this is for you!
Communications
The Communications Committee is currently being formed. This new committee will help design and direct CityClub’s media strategy, branding and marketing and advertising. If you are interested in joining this committee please let us know – we would welcome your talents!
Email CityClub or call 206.682.7395 if you are interested in finding out more about joining a task force or committee.
